MGM TO REVIVE STARGATE SG-1?

If the official Stargate Facebook group is to believed, news from the Stargate Convention in Vancouver*  is that MGM may be reviving SG-1, though in a different format to the original.

While this opens up the paradox of whether it should or should not include Daniel ‘now-you-see-him-now-you-don’t’ Jackson, if this is true, then AWESOME**.

There are no more details at this point, but apparently more will be revealed at Comic-Con San Diego.

Replicator jokes pending.

*How did I not know this was a thing? Australian Stargate Convention anyone?

**Possibly. Approach with caution.

UPDATE 1: While there is no more news or any confirmation, current online speculation ranges from ideas that the possible revival will take the form of a film, comic book, web series, animated show, computer game or app-driven tours of the Stargate, to arguments about the validity of the Facebook group’s claims.

In this article on GateWorld, the writer discusses the likelihood of a game release and looks more into Darren Thomas, the man who apparently made the announcement and who has not previously been associated with any Stargate projects as far as we know.

Update 2:  Michael Shanks’ twitter has been bombarded with enquiries, prompting him to post:

“judging from the info i have read today, my “GUESS” is: its most likely an interactive game of some sort. I am NOT involved at this point…” – Michael Shanks 6:56 AM – 30 Apr 12

and

“If i knew something, i’d tell ya. If I knew something and wasnt allowed to tell ya, i’d say just that. I kinda have “honesty tourettes” :)” – 6:53 AM – 30 Apr 12

as well of a host of other posts and responses.

UPDATE 3: (from Mike’s comment below)
Joseph Mallozzi (one of the writers/producers on SG1/SGA/SGU) just posted this on his blog in response to a comment:

Tim Bullock writes: “Joe. did you here about the StarGate reboot to be announced at Com-con this Summer in some from?”

Answer: I’m aware of the project, but “reboot” is the wrong term. It implies a new film or television series which isn’t the case here.”

The original blog post can be seen here. Comment is at the end.

It would be so awesome for sg1 to come back. Any and all stargate is awesome

  2. anxiousgeek says:

I would love it to come back, though I would miss Amanda Tapping as Sam.

  3. Thyrza Segal says:

I would like to see the original costume designer and her team on the show Christina McQuarrie and Elizabeth Raap Wolskie made all the early incredible costumes and head dresses happen. Elizabeth is a costume maker absolutely like no other and Christina is an amazing designer. Lana facilitates everything and made the work fun for everyone – she is a brilliant costume coordinator and design assistant. Crossing my fingers….

  4. Woman says:

Oh that would be heavenly!!!! They made some pretty dumb moves like cancelling Atlantis to make way for Universe which I am sorry to say… kind of sucked. I would love to have a new Stargate even or even have some of the old cast return to be the mentors… or even an entirely new show!! I am only a little picky!!!! But I’d love to see the Atlantis movie be dusted off.

Oh…. I shall dream tonight of Stargate once again!!!!

    And thank-you for the info!!!

Wooo, what if they had Telltale make a Stargate game like they’ve done with Walking Dead? I would be forced to make them shut up and take my money.

I would love to see a new series of Stargate, there are just some shows that cannot be replaced and this is definitely one of them. Bring it back MGM!
