STAR WARS UNCUT: ONE OF THE SIGNS OF ARMAGEDDON, BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT

Casey Pugh is a geek. A really, really big geek. Casey Pugh has lots of geek contacts. Lots and lots. As a director for Vimeo, he wanted to see what would happen if he crowd-sourced a remake of Star Wars: A New Hope. What he got was around a zillion Star Wars fans filming their own 15-second segments of arguably the most famous sci-fi movie of all time.

Put these clips together and you have Star Wars Uncut. An entire retelling of the original Star Wars movie, jury rigged together out of bad animation, bad acting, bad costumes and bad stop motion. Altogether, you have pure gold. Emmy winning gold.

ANKH-MORPORK: COMMUNITY, IDENTITY, STABILITY.

If I had to choose between meeting Terry Pratchett, Michael Palin and Tim Burton, I would probably shoot myself in the foot with indecision. It wouldn’t be the most constructive decision making tool, but at least it would give me the opportunity to listen to Sad Songs Say So Much whist deciding which Scooby Doo band-aid to apply.

However, if it came to choosing one of them to construct a new societal structure for a city, there’d be less literalling up of metaphors, and more moving to Ankh-Morpork. Continue reading

LORDS OF VEGAS: DICE, BAD LUCK AND NOT ENOUGH CASH [REVIEW]

Generally, I don’t want a whole lot of luck in my boardgames. A little bit of it is alright but too much makes a game feel too close to Snakes and Ladders for my liking. That is unless that game makes the luck factor a specific and deliberate part of the game. In my opinion, no game does this better than Lords of Vegas.

THE MUPPETS: PONDERINGS OF A MUPPETS VIRGIN [REVIEW]

I want to start by confessing that before this week, I had never seen a Muppets movie. This, at least in the YouTube community, can cause a person to be put in the ‘impure fan’ box and prompts the typical “GET OFF MY LAWN” response of the few people who I assume camp out on certain YouTube pages, jealously guarding their interests.

With this being the case, I felt slightly out of place in the session I attended, and not just because I was more familiar with the Portuguese ‘Tiny Fuppets’ or that I entered an iteration loop of doom trying to figure out whether The Muppets were on Sesame Street or not. Continue reading

LIFE’S TOO SHORT FOR MORE GERVAIS DRIVEL [REVIEW]

Here’s how the pitch for Life’s Too Short went:

Gervais: Who is the funniest person alive?

Merchant: Well, obviously you are.

Gervais: Right, and who are the funniest race of people?

Merchant: Well, I’d have to say dwarves.

Gervais: Correct again. So what do we have?

Merchant: Another version of Extras with a dwarf acting just like you?

Gervais: Comedy gold.
